Membership has its benefits!

The 2010 / 2011 membership invoices are being sent to the main contact person at existing member institutions. Membership allows submissions to the National student awards, eligibility for faculty diversity awards, and all the sharing and great advice from Broadcast educators coast-to-coast.

Standing Committees

The BEAC President and Vice-President are on each committee as advisors and representation.

BEAC WEB SITE:

Mandate: Ongoing web services operations and future development of the BEAC website based on the board’s strategic development objectives and layout. Duties include: regular revisions, news updates and uploading/downloading award entries.

MEMBERSHIP

Mandate: Organize existing database of members (active and non-active) and potential members. Create promotional material for regional directors to use to increase membership and collect and organize new data.

NATIONAL AWARDS

Mandate: Create information package to include, judging criteria, rules and a system for judging institutes and the notification of winners. The committee will coordinate with the President and Vice-Presidents for the awarding of the Distinguished Service Awards, the Broadcaster of the Year Award and the Faculty Awards. The committee will also collaborate with the Conference Committee to produce on the Awards Gala.

DIVERSITY

Mandate: Organize and roll out the diversity faculty awards available in the fall of 2009. Prepare the template, guidelines and effective organization of the diversity initiatives including the mentoring database, video/audio testimonials and on-going liaisons with diversity links.

CONFERENCE / SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE

Mandate: To plan and coordinate the successful implementation of the annual BEAC National (Professional Development) Conference and Awards Gala. This committee will assess the venue and facilities, plan the sessions (with input from the members) and garner the much needed sponsorship. They will prepare all promotional material and links for the membership.

CRTC

Mandate: Liaise with the CRTC, to work toward a strong beneficial relationship for our member institution.top

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT* COMMITTEE

*This committee will blend in the original “program exploration committee” to further investigate and implement PD options for the members. Committee members are to be confirmed and recruited as necessary.

Mandate: Investigate the possibility / need of unique programs combining resources across the country. Survey the members to determine the professional development needs/interests and implement a PD page on the website for the exchange of ideas, curriculum, and teaching tips.

HISTORY OF THE BEAC

Mandate: Gather information on the close to 30 years of the BEAC, to update past conference information, and collect information on past members. The History of the BEAC should reside on the website and be corrected as needed if found in error. Committee presented material at the 2009 Conference in Dartmouth and new activity will be to monitor material and keep archiving via the website.

INTERNSHIP

Mandate: Organize existing national data collected regarding internships. Gather more data, in order to help establish a national registry if needed, and suggested guidelines for both employers and students. (Presented research findings at the 2003 National Conference. Committee activity on hold until further direction.)
