The Radio Broadcasting Program at Fanshawe College has attracted students from all over the world but perhaps no more distant than Taishan, a small town in Southern China, located in Guangdong Province, The People’s Republic of China. It was in Taishan that Jing Wei Ma listened to the radio every night while in high school.
“I could see my future through the radio host’s voice,” Jing Wei explains.
Prior to graduating from high school, Jing Wei searched many universities and colleges in Canada and finally chose Broadcast-Radio at Fanshawe. His best friend cautioned him that it would be a difficult program, requiring a high level of English skills, especially for an international student from China.
Jing Wei answered his friend by setting a shining example for Fanshawe’s future international students by doing the following: he stayed close to professors, sought advice often and practiced his skills frequently. Jing Wei also demonstrated his commitment by having every announcing script checked and rehearsed with his Professor Brian Nuttall before assignments.
Jing Wei celebrated his many achievements with the Radio Class of 2015 on June 22 when he received his Broadcast-Radio Diploma at Fanshawe College.
